PERFORMANCES FOR PETS
Krõõt Juurak & Alex Bailey
|/ Location: to be defined
Performances for art-loving cats and dogs!
Artists Krõõt Juurak and Alex Bailey present bespoke performances for pets in their familiar environment and take invitations from animal owners to give private shows at home – human audiences from the animals’ milieu are also welcome!
The project was initiated by Krõõt Juurak and Alex Bailey in 2014, and stems from another project AUTODOMESTICATION which deals with labour conditions of human and non-human species of creative workers. Performances for Pets is represented by the Galerie International.
Krõõt Juurak and Alex Bailey have been dealing with performances for pets since 2014. In addition to exploring our companion species’ tastes and humour, the project also address the fact that entertainment provided by pets working from home is often not recognised as actual work. In an aim to return at least part of this favour, Krõõt Juurak and Alex Bailey ended up devising Performances for Pets, individually adapted to the interests of dogs, cats and other species based on preliminary briefings by their owners. Although Performances for Pets is created solely for appreciation by pets, their human owners and friends are invited to join and view the performance though the eyes of the pet. Performances for Pets has already been performed over 90 times to pets in Zürich, Erlangen, Brussels, Bristol, Tallinn, Berlin and Vienna.
ANIMAL JOKES (FOR ANIMALS)
Krõõt Juurak & Alex Bailey
|/ Location: ªSede
A performance (45 min) for humans in collaboration with Alex Bailey. The internet is saturated with video’s of animals acting “funny,” ranging from compilations in which cats fail to perform certain actions to dogs dancing to pop music. In short, the idea of humans using animals to have fun is widespread. Animal Jokes (for Animals) attempts to reverse this dominant regime and imagine humorous moments, acts and attempts at fun, as seen from the perspective of the pet animal proper.
Animal Jokes (for Animals) consists of a series of physical and mental “jokes” imagining a type of humour that humans do not have access to. This performance was first performed at Salon Klimbim at the Vienna Secession (curated by Fahim Amir).
UNTITLED, UNTEMPERED, UNTAMED
Performance by Eleanor Bauer
|/ Location: Passos Manuel
Untitled, Untempered, Untamed is a solo performance practice by Eleanor Bauer involving speaking, dancing, singing, hanging out with the audience, relationships with things that belong to the time and place of the performance, and relationships with things that don't belong to the time and place of the performance. It's never the same thing twice. Composed according to the invitation, the situation, the place, the time, the context, and what's on the burners, it's an open and dirty container, a way of thinking through performing, a momentary crystalization of a process that started before me or you and ends after me or you but only exists when we pay attention to it.
